Today is a special day for the Benson family 💙 Today is Makena’s one year diaversary. One this day last year we took Makena to the ER. She couldn’t breathe and was just feeling awful. They ran a panel of tests, came back in the room and told us she not only had Covid but was in DKA and had Type 1 diabetes. She was then transferred to John Hopkins All Childrens hospital where we stayed for three days. That day and the three days that followed were truly the hardest days of our lives. Today we celebrate @kena.benson_ She is a TRUE TD1 warrior 💙🩵🤍 Through the literal highs and lows she has remained steadfast and brave. Bravery does not mean you are never scared. It means that you are scared and do it anyway. Makena is truly BRAVE. We are so proud of how she has been open and vulnerable and shared her battles with us. If you see Makena today please give her a BIG hug and remind her how AMAZING she is doing with her TD1. A HUGE thank you to the endo team and ICU team at All Children’s for making a scary time so much more manageable for our family. You are angels and we are so grateful for your excellent care 💗, especially our @mckennnafaith. Our true angel that was sent to us at exactly the right time
