CONGRATS to my fellowship director, mentor, and friend @DrPaulMFriedman on becoming PRESIDENT of the American Society of Laser Medicine & Surgery! @aslmsmeeting 🎉 With Dr. Friedman’s presidency, we will be initiating a national philanthropic initiative in collaboration with @shelteredalliance to support sex trafficking survivors in their recovery by establishing a national network of board certified physicians willing to provide pro bono laser removal of branding tattoos. 💥 Our study presented at ASLMS found that almost 1 in 2 sex trafficking survivors have tattoos conveying ownership branded on them by their trafficker, and there is a great need and large impact for laser removal of branding tattoos in recovery. ⁣ ⁣ We cannot thank enough our colleagues Dr. Elizabeth Kream @DrKream and Alisha Merlo @stoptrafficwalk_sandiego who have been instrumental in our initial needs and impact survey for branding tattoo removal and in helping us dream big for this life changing initiative! 💖⁣ ⁣ Now that I’m in my last few months of fellowship, I’m even more grateful for the opportunity to not only have developed expertise in lasers and energy based devices from Dr. Friedman’s mentorship, but to also have learned how we can use our unique skills to give back to the community and make a difference! 💕
