Have you seen the new Taylor Swift video for Anti-Hero? TW: ED. ⬇️ Let me know in the comments, as I have a lot of thoughts about it... Basically, I’m torn with my opinion. Evidently the scales reference to ‘fat’ (screenshot on last slide) is talking about her own ED, driven from being in the spotlight. I know from my own experience/struggles that when I lost a lot of weight I couldn’t see it, I thought I was still fat when I was at my slimmest. I also think it’s brave to talk about her struggles so publicly. I think it’s easy to forget that people with bodies of *all* types struggle with image issues - again driven by society’s unrealistic idea of beauty. But (and I mean this whole heartedly) fat is not the worst thing you can be as a human. Using the word fat in such a negative way (when it isn’t a negative word) is SO damaging and feels like a huge step back in the body positivity movement. It’s also triggering. So many struggle with the scales already. I also dread to think about the amount of teens who will watch this video and think of fat in a bad way. HOWEVER, with my marketing brain on- I know for a fact there will have been numerous meetings, story boards, discussions and a well thought out plan for this video. Nothing is unintentional. This has been done to drive word of mouth, to get people talking about Taylor’s new video. Any publicity is good publicity, right? I know I wouldn’t have watched the video if a friend didn’t ask my opinion...
