From ICP's collection—the studios of Brancusi, Marie Laurencin, and Monet, by Alexander Liberman. Liberman was himself an artist, a path he pursued even while he rose through the ranks at Condé Nast to become the art director of Vogue. At the magazine, Liberman was able to bridge the gap between art and fashion; he was also active in finding and working with those who pushed the medium of fashion photography, such as André Kertész, Irving Penn, Richard Avedon, Helmut Newton, Annie Leibovitz, and—the subject of ICP's current exhibition—William Klein. Images: Alexander Liberman, Brancusi's studio, Paris, 1955; Marie Laurencin, Paris, 1949; Claude Monet’s living room-studio, Giverny, France, 1954. All Gifts of Alexander Liberman, 1990.
