A 92-year-old man has had a pint in his local pub every day since 1954 - only missing out during lockdown. Bernard Bland celebrated his birthday Nunsthorpe Tavern in Grimsby, Lincolnshire where he has become well and truly part of the furniture over the best part of seven decades. The pensioner used to splash out a mere eight shillings and 10 pence on a pint when he first stepped up to the bar but has no plans to let price or let alone his age halt his visits. Bernard said: "People can't afford to come to the pub like they used to anymore. The cost of a pint when I first started coming here was about eight shillings and 10 pence" (around 45p in today's money).
