In this club, we all moving in slow motion. First race of the year is done and it’s only a day off from my 12th anniversary of running at NYRR races. The Joe Klienerman 10K was the first race that helped me learn things I oftentimes didn’t hear talked about in 2014. I heard of race day anxiety mentioned only in performance but I quickly learned that I felt that from being in crowds. I was able to see how people can forget to take their fuel because of all of the buzz and excitement. I never felt so scared, overstimulated and seen in my adult life until that point. But when it was all over, I found it to be exhilarating, addictive and poetic. I still think running sucks at least 3 of 7 days a week and my back was out there trying to make a mixtape but this sport helped me reclaim my movement, passion and refine my voice. Cheers to a fantastic 10K. I may or may not have started 20 minutes late but the community was right on time.
