Twenty five years ago today I woke up to the news that the little movie we made the previous summer, American Pie, was on track to open number 1 at the box office. I would later sneak in to a couple of screenings around LA with some of the other cast and filmmakers, standing in the back of the sold out theaters completely awestruck as I watched the audiences laugh hysterically. Saturday morning I would wake up and walk with my roommate to Bagel Nosh on Wilshire Boulevard in Santa Monica to grab some breakfast. Crossing Wilshire, a car drove by us and stopped suddenly. The window rolled down, and the people in the car started freaking out and calling me “Jim” and asked me to “do the dance.” (I didn’t lol). The car drove away and my roommate looked at me and said, “Holy shit Biggs. That’s it. Your life is changed forever.” And he was right. For me, there is before American Pie, and after. And 25 years later, I am filled with nostalgia, but mostly, extreme gratitude, for the gift that it has been in my life. From the friends I made on set, to the career it has given me, and most especially to the different generations of fans from around the world that I get to meet every day. And of course, to Chris and Paul Weitz, Adam Herz, Joseph Middleton, and the @universalpictures family for giving me this opportunity in the first place. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
