The King and Queen have begun their first Christmas at Sandringham since Charles acceded to the throne. But as members of the royal family gathered at the sovereign’s Norfolk home for the first time in three years, the question was: just what sort of a Christmas will they have with Charles in charge? The answer appears to be: jollier, shorter and, possibly, a lot more grand. After two years in which Covid put paid to large royal family get-togethers at Sandringham, this will be the biggest royal gathering for a while. Charles and Camilla are due to be joined by the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children, the Princess Royal and her family, and the Earl and Countess of Wessex and their children. The disgraced Duke of York will also be there, but it may be unlikely that he will join the rest of the family at church on Christmas Day. The contents of the King’s first Christmas message to the nation remain a closely guarded secret, but one thing is certain: he will pay tribute to his late mother when he gives his televised broadcast. An image of him taken during the recording of his Christmas message shows him standing while he delivers his address in St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, which is where the Queen is buried with the Duke of Edinburgh. 🔗 Click the link in our bio for the full story 📸 Victoria Jones
