Have you ever heard that pearls are "eco-friendly gems?" Certainly they are more ethical than over-mined, over-priced, and overrated diamonds! And like Mrs. Jackie Kennedy, one of the queens of pearls herself once said, β€œpearls are always appropriate” (i.e. they never go out of style πŸ˜‰). Because diamonds can take up to--get ready--3 BILLION years to form naturally, we don't really count natural diamonds as a renewable source. There's a limited supply of them available to us now, and the diamond industry is stopping at nothing to get to them! By contrast, a mussel (where we get freshwater pearls) can produce up to 30 pearls in just 6 months! Freshwater pearls come from a renewable source, and can be farmed ethically in ways that wont harm the mussel that they were grown in. πŸ¦ͺ πŸ’ So what do you think? Are pearls "eco-friendly gems?"
