The 2020 California wildfire season was the largest wildfire season in modern history and cost billions in damages. The CZU Lightning Complex fire was a horrifying disaster that affected several communities within Santa Cruz County and beyond. #sponsored It was a heartbreaking time for our region as the fire destroyed buildings, houses, ecosystems (pictured here), even causing injury and death. A harrowing feeling way too close to home, it was at that moment I realized our climate crisis was a force to be reckoned with – even on the Central Coast. This fire hit my community right in the heart.
