So this is my take on a night time long exposure of half dome. I was lucky enough to be able to use a bit of the afterglow from the sun setting to make that warm illumination. The two most difficult things with shooting at night were the difficulties of autofocusing as it’s too dark for your camera to get an accurate reading. And also my hands were absolute freezing constantly adjusting settings while it was -10c or 14’F. I found I just had to take lots of sample shots just to get the focus as close as possible. Another thing with long exposure at night is that the longer your exposure, the more the stars move. They are pretty clear in this shot but in the ones I took at a higher f-stop with more exposure time you can really see the trails being left behind.
