I was 14 years old at my first fencing competition. Growing up, I had never seen any woman win a medal while wearing hijab. Honestly, I had never seen any professional athlete competing in hijab. I knew my journey would be different and I’d have to overcome many forms of discrimination just to get to the starting line. Now that I’m here, my dream is to inspire the next generation of women and show them that you can change the world as a fencer or any athlete. I am excited to partner with Strava and their #striveformore initiative to help make sports more inclusive, by removing obstacles that women face like ease of acccess, discrimination and pay inequality.
