The second Palmer House – just across the street from the first building – became one of the social centers of Chicago. The hotel offered a bar room, that became the city’s preferred drinking venue. In addition, the hotel’s dining room was amongst Chicago’s most opulent. Palmer House played an enormous role in creating the City of Chicago. Or... was the City ultimately built around Palmer House?
