These exquisite and hard-to-find large dentalium shells are set with 18K yellow gold & hang on gold and pavé diamond hoops (1/3 ct diamond weight in hoops) with two .10ct teardrop diamond dangles. These earrings are stunning, sophisticated and fun to wear! They hang 4.25" long. Shells have been used by Indigenous people across this planet. Even Nations originally located in the great plains, like mine, used shells historically acquired through sophisticated and complex trade routes. Making this collection has been engaging for me, as it addresses the value systems that my work is about. I believe that Native materials like shells and animal products are just as valuable as gold and diamonds, if not more. It takes a healthy planet and environment to sustain our oceans, our land, and our water which in return sustains not only animals, and plants but also our well beings. Diamonds and gold can exist without clean water and healthy soil. What is more important? A healthy planet or the wealth and profit that eurocentric jewelry represents?
