Pt. 2 “In the company of my sisters” - my Aunty Wanda told me about a group she used to host that held this name...it was a space to help and empower women, for this reason I’m calling this series of pictures that same name Maybe you’ve come across these pictures on your timeline already maybe you haven’t, but I’m posting them anyway because they’re important to me Growing up as a little girl I loved the beauty supply store - I loved it more than the mall, I loved it more than the store I just loved it...the aisles danced with color and different smells & there were so many women - people who looked liked sisters, aunts, cousins, mothers who made me feel welcomed in this space The beauty supply store was a space of collaboration, experimentation, sensitivity, frustration, warmth, transformation, dramatization- it was an intimate place where my hair and I could play...it possessed a sacredness, an exclusivity that I felt in no other public space The beauty supply store was an INVESTMENT 😅 my investment into self, into something that was so intricately and delicately tied to my identity, my hair 🤎
