When I was in elementary school, I remember seeing diamond-shaped “safe place” signs. School was an environment where kids could feel safe, and those signs acted as a reminder of that. I never had to fear for my life in elementary school. I have always tried to stay away from politics on this account, but hearing about the shooting at an elementary school in Texas has left me with a pit in my stomach for the last couple of days. My heart goes out to the 19 children and two adults who lost their lives, the classmates who had to witness the tragic event, and the parents. This comes just a number of days after a shooting at a grocery store in Buffalo, New York, and another shooting at a church in Southern California. There have been 200 mass shootings this year with 27 taking place at schools. When will enough be enough? How many people need to lose their lives until the United States government decides to enforce stronger regulations on firearms? The whole situation makes me feel hopeless because I know nothing will change. There will be more mass shootings, and more innocent lives will be horrifically and unjustifiably lost. This is not a safe place. In my story, I will be linking a couple places where you can donate to the families. Please donate if you can. Stay safe everyone. Design by me.
