Active Resting In a world that spins ever faster, where the noise of life—literal and figurative—grows louder by the day, and tragedy after tragedy scrolls across our screens, it can feel impossible to find stillness, let alone peace. We are constantly pulled outward, bombarded by information, expectations, and pressures that leave the nervous system frayed and heart heavy. In this relentless pace, rest is not a luxury—it is a profound act of rebellion, a radical return to our essential nature. But not just any rest: the kind of rest that allows the mind to quiet, the breath to soften, and the body to release its deep-held tensions. Restorative yoga offers this sanctuary, a practice of active rest where the body is fully supported, inviting the parasympathetic nervous system; the body’s natural healing mode to awaken. In these gentle postures, we let go of the doing, the striving, the endless productivity, and practice being. We learn that we are not machines of constant output; we are human beings with tender hearts, fragile bodies, and a deep need to nourish the soul. In this quiet, we begin to mend ourselves, and perhaps also the world, one softened breath, one surrendered moment at a time. Practice finding stillness in this shaking world. Resilience grows when we soften our hearts inside to outside noise. Patience grows when we are well rested. Love expands when the heart finds softer landings. Practice makes progress. And peace might still be possible if we rest our weary broken hearts for just a few moments a day. Breathe in. Breathe out. Soften the breath. Soften the mind. Soften the heart to let the light out.
