The natural diversity of our planet is made up of biodiversity and geodiversity. Geodiversity comprises the variety of geological elements on our planet (rocks, minerals, fossils, landforms, glaciers, waterfalls, volcanoes, erosion, earthquakes, etc.). Geoheritage encompasses the geodiversity that has exceptional values and that must be valorized and protected. Geoheritage Sites are key places to understanding dynamic earth systems, the succession and diversity of life and evolution of landforms. They present a full range of values, including scientific, aesthetic, cultural, ecosystem, educational, recreational and many others. Yosemite National Park is one of the places on our planet with a unique geoheritage, where we can marvel at the diverse geological features that record its history of hundreds of millions of years. Geoheritage connects people with the natural landscape and allows us to really appreciate both the beauty and significance of these places.
