While I’ve been to the Greek islands many times, this was my first time exploring Athens and it was unforgettable. From standing at the Acropolis with the Parthenon towering above to visiting the Temple of Zeus and the ancient Agora, every site felt steeped in history. I stopped at the Olympic Stadium, watched the changing of the guard at Parliament, and strolled through the peaceful National Gardens. I loved wandering Plaka, the city’s oldest neighborhood, with its cobblestone streets, colorful houses, and lively tavernas. What struck me most is how Athens is a true mix of old and new, where traditional Greek tavernas sit alongside hip modern fusion restaurants and ancient structures built in the 5th century BC stand next to sleek modern architecture. From the sweeping views of the city and sea at the Acropolis to the sounds of street musicians and the aroma of souvlaki drifting through Monastiraki, Athens left me in awe at every turn.
