A reminder that Instagram is a highlight reel, and although I don’t share this enough, most of my days actually look like this: working non-stop with my @sakaralife team to help put people back in the driver's seat of their own health, balancing my family life, and in the after-hours, deepening my knowledge and understanding of auto-immune conditions (with an extra focus on how to prevent further diagnoses through nutrition and beyond).
The National Institutes for Health (NIH) estimates that auto-immune conditions as a whole affect between 5% and 8% percent of the U.S. population, Type 1 Diabetes being one of them, and for unknown reasons, the prevalence of autoimmune diseases is increasing.
What I’ve learned is that the risk of being diagnosed with an additional autoimmune condition once you have T1D is about 20%, with some of the most common being hyper/hypothyroidism, Hashimotos or Celiac.
While the cause of autoimmune conditions is unknown, doctors and researchers have found correlations with nutrient deficiencies and abnormal inflammatory responses — so I’m looking at how nutrition can play a role in impacting both of these variables (and of course, MANY more) in order to help Bodhi and others treat, manage, and prevent their disease progression.
