Welcome to Haiti , once known as the pearl of the Antilles🇭🇹 from the time I landed I felt an instance feeling of being home and embrace. Okay , quick story time : Both of my parents are from Haiti my mother is from a place called Gonaives and my dad is from Port-au-Prince. I would always hear stories about how beautiful and fun growing up in Haiti was for them. Growing up my mother worked very hard to raise all of 4 us on her own and didn’t always have the time to teach us kreyòl , but she always instilled the culture in us through food, music, dance and history. As I got older I realize that not speaking kreyòl to some people made me not Haitian and I suffered from imposter syndrome. I tried to shrug it off because I loved my culture so much but I won’t lie to you it was a blow every time. Being able to go home was the most full circle moment in my life even though I didn’t speak the language I spoke another language they could understand which is energy! My energy isis pure because I knew who my people were my and culture through this we were able to connect on various levels. I encourage all the diaspora to go home and make your own decisions about who you are and where you come from. Back to the trip ☺️: The country is full of smiles and delicious foods, such as (in order of appearance) Soup Joumou: is a squash based soup Tablet: can be a mixture of nuts or coconut Griot: Fried Pork Lambi: conch (large sea snails) Fresco: is a refreshing ice treat And all the delicious fresh fruit you can get off any tree 🥰 I also got to visit the beautiful San Souci Palace which was the home of Haiti’s first King, Henri Christophe. I then visited the Citadel which is a large early 18th-century fortress, built to defend against invaders of our free nation (est. 1804) Going to the beach was probably one of my favorite activities! The water was warm and blue. Fishermen were ready with fresh fish to cook on the beach! I ended the trip with the renowned @dinerenblanchaiti white party! Being able to party with all my people and lovers of the island was pure magic!! I encourage you all to come visit Ayiti🇭🇹! Hotel : @lemontjoli
