A reminder to all heading into the 97th @theacademy Awards tonight: Inclusion is under sttack in this country right now. In devastating ways, including very directly for those of us working in the arts (as the attached slides clearly outline). But it does not have to be this way, friends! Already, as of February 21, a federal judge has largely blocked sweeping executive orders from Donald Trump that seek to end government support for programs promoting diversity, equity and inclusion. So keep speaking up! Additionally, private companies have NEVER had to roll back DEl initiatives. Trump’s executive orders don’t apply to private companies. Making what is happening in the entertainment industry right now (and beyond), simply a choice. A choice we must hold corporations accountable for. Remembering our own power, and that when we come together in solidarity, and as artists, we enact change. The wise lifelong writer and educator Jeanne Noble reminding, “Any form of art is a form of power; it has impact, it can affect change — it can not only move us, it makes us move.” Know that. Believe that. Tell the stories you want to tell. That only you can tell. Continue to demand inclusion and equity. To fight for community and empathy. Help change how people see and experience the world. In the stories we celebrate tonight, and every day. #TheOscars #AcademyAwards #Inclusion #Equity #Diversity #Storytellers #Writers #WGAStrong #directors #producers #actors #crew #iatse #musicians #artists #filmmakers #workersrights #solidarity #unionstrong #powertothepeople #accountability #freespeech #community #entertainmentindustry #unions #collectiveaction #fightback #supportartists #fightforchange
