1964’s T.A.M.I. show, which featured Marvin Gaye, The Supremes, Chuck Berry, The Beach Boys, The Rolling Stones and James Brown on the bill, rivals Woodstock as the greatest lineup of musicians assembled in history. @officialtonibasil may be most famous as the singer of “Mickey” but she lived a whole life in show business before that, and she was there inside the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium as a show choreographer.
In this clip from a new episode of @lamag's #TheOriginalsPodcast, Basil tells @andrewgoldmanwrites about witnessing the Rolling Stones’ horrified reaction backstage as James Brown and the Famous Flames brought the house down, knowing full well that they would be performing next.
"Well, let's sit on the side of the stage and watch this blood bath,” she told fellow choreographer David Winters.
