Since the late 1950s, the North American Aerospace Defence Command (Norad) has “tracked” Santa Claus as he makes his way around the globe. The Norad Santa tracker is one of the most popular, joyous moments of Christmas in a digital age, but you may struggle to find it on Twitter this Christmas.
Elon Musk, the new owner of Twitter, has implemented a ban on sharing live location information — prompting speculation that this could affect the Santa tracker.
The ban on live location data — or, as Musk has termed it, “assassination co-ordinates” — is the oddest footnote in a chaotic couple of months. It has been almost 60 days since the entrepreneur walked into Twitter’s San Francisco headquarters carrying a sink to declare his takeover of the social media platform complete.
