Sunset is out now - thank you for receiving it with so much love and for being so down to ride with me to all sorts of new sonic places ✷ Began this song in the fall of 2020 with @segabodega in London, our first time ever working together. I was a big fan of his music and we instantly hit it off in the studio, but was feeling quite shy and frustrated with my own ideas that day, so decided to end the session early. As we were packing up to leave, Salvador unprompted hit play on this guitar loop he had recorded ages ago, these textured strummed rhythm chords that were uncannily half real guitar and half digital. I loved it. Folk but mechanical, soft but hard, sad but strong. Without us saying anything I sat down at the piano and played the entire melody of sunset overtop in one go, without thinking, just feeling it. I turned around and he was sitting behind me and had recorded the whole thing on his phone - he goes “well there’s our song now isn’t it?” ✷ Sunset entered my live show setlist at last year’s Greek Theatre show in LA, long before production was even finished, and playing it live with my amazing bandmates @butter_manz and @chloesaavedra on tour all year sculpted it into what it finally became in the studio.
