This week marked the LAPD’s 2022 National Night Out, a longstanding annual “community-building campaign” to encourage trust and camaraderie between neighbors and Los Angeles law enforcement. Ultimately, the event on August 2 was more or less a series of block parties with the cops there, which, if you are generally not terrified of the police, can be a lovely way to spend an evening. Intrepid reporter Ben Kawaller spent the first part of the night in Hollywood at Helen Bernstein High School before moving on to his own stomping ground of West Hollywood to speak with police officers and members of the community on Poinsettia Drive, Ogden Drive, and Horn Avenue.
