There are few spaces specifically dedicated to supporting Pasifika creatives in Hollywood. So, earlier this year, I decided to make the space. I invited five writers to join me for a monthly writers group with the intention of carving out a safe place for critical feedback, community building and learning (thanks to our guest speakers who graciously shared and answered questions about various aspects of the industry). I have been so inspired and invigorated by the passion they each bring to telling nuanced, complex (often hilarious) stories that speak to the vastness of the Pacific Islander experience. The experience far exceeded my expectations and has been a powerful reminder of the necessity of building a strong network of support for our PI creatives.
