So often performing is just that. An act for the sake of the audience. Not that it’s inauthentic, but it’s rehearsed — the moments of push and pull and rise and fall are intended. That execution can create a divide between the creation, the creator, and the listener. But what seconds of magic exist when the three come together — the voice cracks. The walls come down for a moment just to return when the lights come back on. There is an intimacy — a seeing that softens that barrier as we look up again. It doesn’t happen for me that often, but I appreciate when I know it’s felt.
