i don’t have a clever caption in mind so i’m just going to share a story about my jewelry 🐉🐖
i’ve mentioned that the longer necklace was my mom’s, which is already so special on its own, but it actually has extra meaning. mom is from the philippines but is ethnically part chinese so she incorporated a lot of chinese culture into our upbringing. the two pendants on the necklace are indicative of that.
the larger one has a dragon on it, which symbolizes good luck and strength. the reverse side of that pendant has the chinese symbol for good luck on it, which is meant to always face in toward my chest to keep the good luck in me.
the smaller pendant has a pig on it because i was born in the year of the pig in the chinese zodiac. i used to hate that when i was a kid because i thought pigs were lame, but pigs are known to be energetic, compassionate, and determined... all things i like about myself as an adult.
the other necklace is made with pearls — my birthstone as well as a very filipino accessory — and an “f” charm for my dogter, frankie. i’ve been wearing these two stacked together a lot recently, i think they help me feel grounded.
