My exhibition "Jess T. Dugan: Coupled" is being installed today at the @mfaboston. . This show is one of the most meaningful I have ever done and feels especially important right now, as queer folks continue to face increasing violence and discrimination. "Coupled" is a series of twenty 20 x 24 Polaroids of queer couples I made between 2006-2008, just on the heels of the legalization of same-sex marriage in Massachusetts in 2004. I made these photographs while I was a student at MassArt and just after, hosting four photo shoots over a two year period with 5 couples each. The subjects are my friends, my family, my lovers, and my community. As I look back on this work now, I see it both as a time capsule of a particular moment in history as well as a particular moment in my own life and coming of age process. . Last year, the full body of work was acquired by the @mfaboston, which has always felt like my dearest home institution. The 20-year-old-photography-student version of myself who made these would be over the moon to see how this all turned out. And, I'm deeply grateful for the long-term and ongoing support of the wonderful curator @nerak214214, who is responsible for the acquisition and exhibition. . I am unbelievably honored that this work is part of the MFA's collection and that it will be on view for the next six months.
