Mexico is celebrating Independence Day in the capital’s main square, the Zocalo, where the president gives the early-morning cry of independence, shouting: “Viva Mexico!”⁠ ⁠ Independence Day marks the start of the 1810-21 struggle for freedom from Spain.⁠ ⁠ The event has only been cancelled twice.
