EATING WELL ON A BUDGET 💰🥗 times are tough and for so many lifestyle changes are kicking in for better and for worse, but having a healthy, balanced, and varied diet doesn’t have to be expensive! I hope I can help! Here’s some of my top tips to help you eat well for less ⬇️
Before shopping, make a meal plan for the week ahead and check which ingredients you already have in the cupboards 📝 Not only will this be kinder to your purse it will save you time in the shops and in the kitchen too.
Switch fresh produce like fish, fruits or veg for frozen or tinned varieties 🍓🥦🐟 These have just as many if not more nutrients than fresh items and can be considerably cheaper.
In the supermarket 🛒 look for seasonal and local produce, reduced section buys, or ‘wonky’ variations of fruits & veg as this will help keep the costs down but still give the same great taste and nutrition. You could also try a new ingredient that is perhaps cheaper that will help to increase diet diversity too.
Take advantage of your freezer ❄️ separate large packs of meat, fish, bread, fruit, and veg, into portions and freeze the rest that you won’t eat before the use-by date. You could also use the freeze to keep leftovers when you bulk cook to avoid waste and to save time when you need a quick, nutritious meal.
Bulk out your meals with tinned plant-based foods like pulses and legumes 🌱 These items are often cheaper than products like meat or fish and they also contribute to your fibre intake and plant points each week as well.
These are just a few, but there are so many other ways in which you can save money but still eat well 🙌🏼 I’m also acutely aware of other factors that can get in the way such as location and education, so let’s help spread the message.
