My October was ALL about denim. Besides immersing myself in the latest @kingpins_show sensations and Dutch Sustainable Fashion Week, I spoke to a bunch of textile innovators, read piles of reports on the state of chemical and mechanical recycling and scouted the sexiest jeans brands that are already working with these techniques. 📰Publication Fashion United “Recycling denim: This is how Dutch jeans brands do it” After all, Amsterdam is the jeans capital of Europe... Had a chat with @mudjeans and @kingsofindigo to see where we’re at on the recycling front. Why is it so * hard to accelerate the growth of these funky innovations that have been hiding in labs all around the globe? 💡we know how to recycle pre-consumer waste, but it’s the (polluted, mixed materials) post-consumer waste that demands a solution 💡whereas mechanical recycling has its limitions, chemical recycling is more promising. BUT: the feedstock needs to be very pure. 💡Recycling is not exactly a financially attractive option for brands. It’s often double taxed, unsubsidized... And this is a money world. What can we do to speed this up? Dot dot dot. Ideas are welcome! 📰Publication Change Inc. “5 innovations that will make denim sustainable” From @oritain.global ‘s verified bio-cotton to @officina39 ’s recycled colors - a dyestuff called Recycrom. Also mentioning the efforts of: @kering_official , @pangaia , @jeanologia , Lenzing (Refibra), and @unspun.io .
