Imagine that someone is holding the steering wheel of your car while you're trying to turn. If they hold firmly enough ANYWHERE on the wheel, you've got a problem. Same goes for Padmasana. If ANY part of the wheel is holding too tightly, it's not going to rotate very well.
Like every hip-opening sequence I teach, this practice addresses the full circumference of your hip-joint. Like a steering wheel, your hip-joint is a full, 360 degree circle.
