hallo internet i am thrilled to announce to you that i am a columnist at @032c as of this week. her very own column! this has been a minute in the making. after being in talks with everyone and leaving demotivated realising no one will let me actually say what i want to say, this opportunity came through the door. one i wouldn’t even have fantasised about out loud to myself. to have the opportunity to share information and industry knowledge together with the one magazine which isn’t afraid to be opinionated, political, to take a stand, feels like a dream. and a little nerve wracking. my first feature will launch in two days. i went into the industry with the intention to be a writer. months into my masters in fashion journalism at csm i realised that absolutely no one was waiting for me. there was a clear definition of who a fashion journalist was, and it wasn’t me. but instead of looking for approval or moulding myself into something i wasn’t, pitching to magazines who didn’t respect me, i let go of what i thought a publication was and tried to become my own. and realised my little instagram stories could have more impact than an article of a magazine that’s faking their clicks. finding my own readers; an audience of people who shared my curiosity as well as frustrations about this industry. even if it took years, and a lot of unfollows and blacklists, IRL and online, i’m glad to have stuck to my own moral compass. this will be a column set out to help those trying to break into the industry with providing knowledge that i wish i had access to earlier. i am interviewing inspiring people in search of industry insights, as the lack thereof sets many of us up for failure. i’m hoping it will help you. the column is called brenda’s business, where i’ll do anything but mind my business. i hope you’ll read it lol. #brendasbusiness
