As news circulates around monkeypox, we want you to stay informed and up to date on the most effective and recent protocols shared by the CDC and the LA County Dept. Public Health to prevent, treat and understand monkeypox. As of July 12, 2022, the CDC has reported less than 1,000 cases in the U.S. with most cases having little to no life-threatening symptoms. Though case numbers are relatively low for our country, we advise everyone to stay safe and calm as we learn, enforce and destigmatize any news surrounding this strain. MHF is closely monitoring cases in LA County and is in close contact with @lapublichealth to inform our patients on the next steps we need to take for vaccination distribution. At the moment, the CDC recommends vaccination for people who have been diagnosed with or exposed to monkeypox, as well as people who are at higher risk of exposure, including those identified by public health officials as a contact of someone with monkeypox and individuals whose jobs expose workers to orthopoxviruses. If you believe you are experiencing any symptoms such as rashes on your face, inside your mouth and other parts of your body, please reach out to your primary care provider.
