Back to back events, is it a good idea? Having run a 70.3 distance triathlon last weekend and a half marathon yesterday, you'd think I'm hobbling around the office. Although there are some aches and pains today, doing back to back events is a great way to build fitness and strength. The age-old concept that "running destroys your knees" doesn't hold water. As long as you're careful and considerate with your favorite activities, there is rarely such a thing as "too much".
Here are my three recommendations for back to back event planning:
1) Make sure you've built baseline strength! Commit to strength training 2-3 times per week to keep your kinetic chain strong. Strong muscles mean less joint loading.
2) Be a good body listener. Aches and pains are normal, hobbling around like an old dog isn't! Make sure you're tuned into your body's cues and get those aches and pains checked out if they change how you are walking or running.
3) Movement is a blessing. You were probably faster last year and you were probably faster the year before that! Rather than looking backwards, celebrate your ability of where you are today and get out there and do your thing.
Looking forward to seeing everyone on the road! 📸 @nyrr #run #motivational #fitness
