Symptoms and signs of monkeypox vary and are similar to smallpox and COVID. One of the main symptoms that can help you distinguish monkeypox from other illnesses are rashes. The CDC reports rashes to be one of the first symptoms, if not the only symptom that individuals experience with monkeypox in the early stages. Rashes appear pimple and blister-like and can spread in areas like your face, inside the mouth and other parts of your body like hands, feet, chest, genitals and or anus. Monkeypox typically lasts two to four weeks and is a self-limited illness meaning you can get better without treatment. Though some individuals may experience all symptoms or can become severely ill, the fatality rate is very low and resources are available for those ill or with questions.
