Andile Khumalo
Born in Durban, South Africa, Andile Khumalo is a composer and music lecturer at the University of Witwatersrand (Johannesburg, South Africa). His works have been presented at prestigious venues and festivals on four continents (Africa, Europe, Asia and North America). In addition, he has received numerous awards, and commissions from ensembles such as Ensemble Mosaik (Berlin), Talea Ensemble (New York), Fontana Trio (Switzerland), Stuttgart chamber orchestra (Germany), Takefu music festival (Japan), and Juilliard New Music Ensemble (New York). In 2014, Khumalo was featured in Carnegie Hall‘s Ubuntu Festival: Music and Arts of South Africa; and most recently partnered with Ensemble Dal Niente to present two formative works: Shades of Words (2012) for narrator and ensemble, and Cry Out (2009) for viola, oboe, marimba, and piano. Khumalo completed a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at Columbia University (2013) and previously studied in Stuttgart (Germany) where he received his Masters in Composition.
