Of an exceptionally beautiful patch of land in the south of Costières de Nimes, we are quite partial. This is the southernmost appellation of the Rhône, just a short drive from the sea.
Back in 2003, Emilie and Brice Bologini planted themselves right in the center of a 27ha plot of abandoned vines. At the time, they wouldn't have been legal at a bar in the United States, but they made these beautiful vineyards their home, and the task of cultivating its fruit for wine their work.
Over the years, they've trimmed the vinifera down to 16ha, while converting all the plots to organic viticulture without the use of chemical pesticides. The nearest vines are a short walk from their where they live (in fact they are nearly surrounded), and the coexistence is something very beautiful.
The wines are thus a product of a family home, and the flavors and textures confirm that the wines are made to be drunk and enjoyed. They make wines for meals, and wines for conversation: table wines, in the best sense of the phrase -- Wines we like to live with, as well as wines we save to make dull days into memorable ones.
