As we learn more about monkeypox, MHF wants to remind you that monkeypox is not considered an STI, and can be spread from person-to-person without engaging in sexual activity. Though the LGBTQ+ community is among one of the most susceptible groups to catch the virus, it is not a sexually transmitted disease and it is not only prone to gay men and other men who have sex with men (MSM). To avoid possible exposure, be mindful of close skin-to-skin contact with others, avoid crowded and sweaty environments and dispose of any shared towels and kitchenware with someone who has been exposed.
