hi friends, life update: last month i injured my dominant wrist—for the past month or so i have been healing from wrist injuries brought on by excessive/intense violin techniques accumulated over the last few years and also acute traumas to my hand. in this time i've been traveling and seeing friends, but now i'm mostly taking a break from playing violin and working to heal as much as possible.
i was lucky enough to meet an incredible acupuncturist and physical therapist who has been helping me through this, although not without the occasional setbacks. it has been my first time trying acupuncture and the whole experience has been very healing and illuminating for me as i reflect on my playing style and even my way of life. our bodies are so important to music making and i'm so clearly learning this now.
de Quervain's tendinitis affects my thumb & wrist movement, which any string player knows is a worst-case scenario, especially for your bow arm. computer use, phone use, cooking, and pretty much any practical activity become limited in how much i can do, and at a cost of healing faster. tendons can take weeks to heal, and resting feels most difficult in a place as bustling as nyc.
i'm hoping for a full recovery time early next year to be back in shape for playing shows again, and can post updates as they come. in the meantime, hoping to do more things that don't use my hands; singing, listening, reading, watching films, walking, thinking, and spending time with friends :") take care of yourselves!! our bodies are precious 🫂🌊🪢🖐️🌺
