My favorite photo of Emmy I’ve ever taken. Genuine. Pure. I’ve been thinking a lot. A LOT. On the airplane, waiting in line for the rental cars, when I drop her off at school, when I shoot weddings, and I’ve been asking why am I attracted to certain photos. When I saw this frame while scanning film I figured it out. I love the photos that make me want to be there again. Simple as that. I want to remember that she loved her plastic necklace, her half painted fingernails from the set Ash got her. Her missing tooth (she got some cheddar from the tooth fairy on that one) We had spent the day at the park playing, and then got some pizza, and an ice cream cone that she was ecstatic about. Like, I don’t even give a shit that a golf cart is in the background. Actually, you know what. It makes it better because that’s how it was. I remember thinking, “God. I want to relive these past three hours forever” We get distracted by shiny things. By polished and whatever is attractive and popular at the current time. But let me tell ya. Styles change. Trends come and go. I’ve been doing this since I was a teen. I’ve seen it. Clients always tell me. My favorite photo from my wedding is the one (insert something hilarious or a genuine moment that happened) and I wonder if they ever wish they had realized it prior to stressing on the day about if their wedding would come out “perfect” The only thing I’ve seen stand the test of time is a true internal connection to the photograph. And for that, the photo has to be honest to one’s true desire as an artist. This is what I will be continually working on for the rest of my life now. — Also. Trying to decide if I should start a personal account. There’s so many photos I don’t share but feel like they should have a space somewhere.
