After taking a much needed hiatus in 2024 the Elves came back with a vengeance (okay maybe vengeance is the wrong word for Elf intensity, how about sparkle?) and produced a whopper of a MBTA themed Camberville scene this year. While we can’t promise to make the MBTA more reliable, the gingerbread version is here and waiting for you at the gingerbread station. No fares required.
We call them gingerbread scenes because it’s difficult to describe their scope. So let’s just stick to the facts. This year’s scene is about 12 feet long and over 400lbs, spanning two windows and apparently clocking in at over 560,000 calories. A gingerbread train connects almost a dozen landmarks in Cambridge and Somerville including a mini Elmendorf, New Deal Fish Market, Gracie’s ice Cream, Honeycomb Creamery, Bagelsaurus, Porter Square Books, and the Somerville theatre. But there’s so much more!
The Elves populate their scenes with hundreds (literally hundreds) of individually crafted fondant woodland creatures and items.
The scenes include incredible details, stories of mice robbing trains, and some terrible/awesome puns. You can spend hours staring at it (and we have) and keep finding the Easter Eggs.
Come see the gingerbread scene in our window 24/7! It’s lit. Literally and figuratively.
Massive thanks to Wil, Parker, Amy, @rocketprops and the rest of the amazing elf crew who built this. True community. It takes a village to build a village.
