It's #AmericanEducationWeek and at GO, providing children with quality access to education has been at the forefront of our priorities. In 2020, GO launched the Hands Across Watts Initiative in collaboration with Beachbody to ensure that K-12 children did not fall behind during the COVID-19 LAUSD school closures. Working with a network of grassroots Local Heroes across Watts, the Avalon Carver Community Center and the Nickerson Gardens Recreation Center transformed into two “Safe Zones” giving children in these communities access to technology and the internet, tutoring to help them understand and complete their assignments, access to STEM programs, mental health counseling, online workout sessions, and extra curricular activities using safe social distancing.
