Review: Beautiful World Where Are You by Sally Rooney __ Overall I enjoyed this book mostly because I like Rooney’s writing style. If you like reading along characters thoughts in a sort of day-dreamy trance, I think you’ll like this one. If you’re looking for a plot-oriented book, it’s not gonna be this. It takes place in London and Ireland and splits perspectives between two women who are best friends. It shifts from daily life to first person letter form as well. BWWAY captured everyday life and pace effortlessly. The mental commentary from characters in between slowly paced events was so emotionally relatable as they navigate life on the cusp of adulthood, confusing relationships, decent jobs, family dynamics, commuting, scrolling Instagram... The mundane moments are all there yet so is the beauty. To me, this felt like a major theme of the book while simultaneously it was how I had to read it as the reader. The mundane was all there in the pages, yet so was the beauty. I liked how real and unfiltered Alice and Eileen’s trains of thought are in their letters— seemingly casual and insignificant tangents at times but really what binds their friendship together. I’m realizing that I am drawn to books that we see the human condition so clearly through ramblings and real life being lived. I wouldn’t recommend this to everyone, but it was a fun read for me 🌼
