I remember the first time I walked into @kingkennedyrugs first studio and purchased my very first carpet. The history and stories that live within every piece that Mikael sells, I was immediately inspired and hooked into collecting. Over the years, he has helped me acquire countless rare rugs from all over the world and been someone in my life as an educator in the world of rug collecting, so much more than just a guy selling textiles. He’s evolved his brand from just being a seller of antique rugs and carpets to a full fledged brand sold around the world. It was only right to work with Mikael on shooting these images in celebration of our collaborative rug with @swarovski - hand embellished with over 20,000 crystals and hand woven in Morocco, this is special collectors item meant to be hung on a wall more than it is meant for the floor. I learned from Mikael some rugs are actually meant for display or artwork rather than the traditional functional floor usage. Something that was originally considered a purely functional object actually has so much more depth to it if you take a step back to see it. From how the rug is made by hand to the people who make it, many times it’s easy to see a finished product and brush it off but when you look at the details in this piece you can’t help but picture all the hands it took to bring it to life.
