NGURRUNGURRUDJBA, YELLOW WATER CRUISE📍Another highlight of visiting Kakadu National Park in @ntaustralia was definitely doing a sunrise cruise at Ngurrungurrudjba, know as Yellow Water, very closeby to Cooinda Lodge (2 minute shuttle bus) if you’re basing yourself there. Yellow Water Billabong is located at the end of Jim Jim Creek that becomes the South Alligator River. This river system is unique as it is included in its entirety within a UNESCO World Heritage listed National Park. The river system is the largest in Kakadu with extensive wetlands that include river channels, floodplains and backwater swamp. It is also home to so much wildlife, there are plenty of crocodiles that you’ll spot on the cruise (we spotted 20) but it is also home to so many birds too. About one third of Australias’s bird species is represented in Kakadu National Park with over 60 species found in the wetlands. We spotted plenty of birds including the Jicarna bird, affectionately known as the ‘Jesus bird’ as it has an unusually long leg span that allows it to walk on water the the lily pads. I also fell in love with the pink sacred lotus flowers that grow in abundance here. This cruise was such a relaxing way to start the morning here. Just cruising along the water with the breeze and morning sun listening and seeing all the wildlife wake up.
