Today marks 365 days since the Taliban took control of the Afghan government.
Hunger and poverty are unimaginable, the fear of violence is omnipresent.
With fewer media, foreign embassies and humanitarian workers in the country, the situation is being scrutinized less closely. But the need for help is enormous – and the trend is rising.
The Afghans suffer deeply. Food prices have skyrocketed while jobs and incomes have shrunk.
Acute malnutrition is now ingrained across the country, and more than half of the Afghan population is dependent on humanitarian assistance.
The sudden withdrawal of international funds, which made up 75% of Afghanistan's economy under the previous government, has led to skyrocketing inflation, record unemployment and a liquidity crisis in the country.
A staggering 97 percent of the population has fallen into poverty. It's a number unmatched anywhere else in the globe.
Afghanistan is in a state of desperation. Although media coverage has drastically decreased. The ongoing humanitarian crisis continues to grow and become the greatest threat.
2021, a year in which Afghanistan faced challenges that left profound consequences for the people.
Every Afghan, both in Afghanistan and in the diaspora, was absolutely shocked when we read the various headlines. 2021 has not hesitated to let us experience an unforgettable heartache. Our Kabul, the name that makes us all feel a sudden happiness and longing that we will always feel. Nothing is more devastating than leaving home because it is no longer a safe haven. Despite this, the Afghans are an unbreakable nation; History has it, we came back stronger once, we'll rise above it all once more.
