I am fortunate to be privileged in so many ways: I have financial freedom. I have freedom of expression. I have freedom of choice. I was born and raised in New York City by a strong, intelligent mother who came from humble immigrant beginnings. Her first job after graduating Hunter college was as a social worker working mainly with mothers. She made us aware of the struggles of so many in our city and in the world. Freedom, equality, and choice were not just core values in our home, but what we thought of as core American values. I try to see the other side of any issue but this one is difficult for me. As a man, as a father and as a partner.
